During this immersive retreat, you’ll embark on a free guided cow elk hunt and then transition into a hands-on wild game butchery and field dressing course led by expert Sierra Anthony of Butcher Solutions LLC.

 

Sierra will walk you through every step of properly caring for and breaking down your harvest, building confidence and skills that will stay with you long after the retreat ends.

 

You’ll learn every step of the field-to-freezer process, including field dressing, skinning, and safe blade handling; quartering, cooling, and efficient meat care methods; identifying muscle groups and understanding cuts; trimming, packaging, and preparing meat for transport; and proper storage and long-term preservation techniques.

What’s Included

Hunting & Field Experience: Your retreat begins with a free guided rifle cow elk hunt on private land. You’ll receive real-time education in field dressing, quartering, and proper meat care as harvests occur, giving you invaluable hands-on learning in the field. Note: The hunt is provided at no cost to comply with Montana regulations. All retreat fees support lodging, butchery instruction, supplies, meals, education, land access, and retreat operations.

 

Wild Game Butchery Instruction: After harvest, you’ll participate in a game processing and butchery workshop led by skilled instructors, including expert Sierra Anthony of Butcher Solutions LLC. You’ll learn muscle group breakdown, trimming, packaging, knife skills, and comprehensive field-to-freezer education you can rely on for the rest of your hunting journey. All instruction is rooted in practical, real-time experience based on the group’s actual harvests.

 

Meals & Connection: Throughout the retreat, you’ll enjoy nourishing meals prepared by your hosts, along with cozy evenings spent connecting, learning, and sharing stories.

Will I be able to bring my elk meat home? 

Yes, you will be able to take your meat home. If flying you will need to make arrangements. Email us at info@heroutdoorjourney.com if you have any questions. 

 

Can I archery hunt?

No, this is a rifle only hunt. 

 

Do I need to bring my own rifle? 

We recommend bringing your own rifle, zeroed in and confirmed before trip. If you have questions about caliber for this hunt please email us at info@heroutdoorjourney.com. Loaner guns can be provided if needed. 

 

Will there be any free time?
Yes. There will still be pockets of downtime to unwind, enjoy the scenery, and connect with other guests.

 

Where is the retreat held?
Emigrant, Montana.

 

What are the accommodations?
We will be staying at a beautiful home close to the hunting location and surrounded by Montana's beauty.

 

What’s the nearest airport?
The closest airport is Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN). Billings, MT is a secondary option.

 

What are the transportation guidelines?
Guests are responsible for their own transportation to and from the retreat location. Transportation from Bozeman may be available—please contact us to check availability.

 

Is airfare included?
No. Guests are responsible for booking their own travel to Montana.

 

Are meals included?
Yes. All meals will be prepared by your hosts throughout the retreat.

 

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?
Yes. A post-registration questionnaire will be sent to gather dietary needs. Please share any restrictions in advance so we can plan accordingly.

 

How do I reserve a spot for the retreat?
Simply add the retreat to your cart and proceed through checkout. In the notes section of the checkout please list if you want to be in group 1 December 6-10, or group 2 December 9-13. 

 

Do you offer internal payment plans?

All payment plans are currently processed through our trusted third-party providers at checkout. If you are unable to use any of the third-party options listed, but would still like to set up a payment plan, please email us at info@heroutdoorjourney.com and we’ll be happy to help explore alternatives.

 

What is the cancellation policy?
If you cannot attend, you may transfer your deposit to another guest or receive a 75% credit to use toward a 26/27 HOJ event. If the hosts must cancel for any reason, you’ll receive a full refund.

 

What should I pack for the retreat?
A detailed packing list will be provided after booking.

 

Will there be Wi-Fi or cell service?
Wi-Fi will be available at the lodging, though cell service may vary based on your provider.

 

Do I need to be a certain age to attend?
Yes. Participants must be 18 years or older.

 

Do I need a hunting license or tag?
Yes, each participant is responsible for purchasing their own Montana hunting license and cow elk B tag. Before you buy your tag we will walk you through the process so you know exactly what to get.
