This empowering, hands-on experience is designed exclusively for women ready to learn the art and science of precision shooting. Whether you’re brand new to rifles or looking to refine your marksmanship at extended distances, this retreat offers a supportive, skill-based environment to grow your confidence, competence, and community in the outdoors.

 

Hosted by Courtney Prete and led by expert instruction from Sean Johnson of Blue Ridge Rifle Range, you'll spend three days diving into the fundamentals of long-range shooting with expert instruction, immersive range time, and all-inclusive accommodations. Join a small group of women who share your drive for learning, adventure, and personal growth — and leave feeling accomplished, capable, and connected. Firearms, ammunition, and all necessary safety gear—including eye and ear protection—are provided, so you can show up ready to learn without the stress of sourcing equipment.

 

This course is ideal for new shooters or those looking to build a strong foundation in long-range shooting before progressing to more advanced levels. Participants should expect to fire approximately 100 to 125 rounds over the course of the weekend. This immersive setting ensures that all your needs are taken care of, so you can concentrate fully on developing your long-range shooting skills.

This course is built for women who want to feel truly confident behind a rifle—whether you’re brand new to shooting or you’ve only dipped a toe in. It’s for those ready to push their limits and learn how to engage targets at 500, 600, and even 1,000 yards, all within a safe, encouraging, and empowering setting. Our professional instructors will guide you step-by-step through the essentials of long-range shooting — combining classroom instruction with practical range experience. As a reminder, firearms, ammunition, and all necessary safety gear are provided! This immersive setting ensures that all your needs are taken care of, so you can concentrate fully on developing your long-range shooting skills.

 

In the Classroom: Fundamentals of long-range marksmanship. Understanding MOA, MIL, and reticle types (First vs. Second Focal Plane). Ballistics, caliber selection, and firearm safety. Scope mounting and proper setup. Equipment selection and system maintenance. Introduction to ballistic calculators and long-range shooting apps.

 

Range & Field Training: Live-fire drills focused on precision and consistency. Basic positional shooting (prone and supported positions). Dialing for distance and adjusting for windage. Real-world application of classroom concepts on the range.

 

Connection: You’ll train alongside women who show up ready to learn, connect, and push past their own limits—turning strangers into a tight-knit, capable crew in no time.

 

Accommodations: Participants will enjoy on-site comfortable cabin-style accommodations that provide a rustic yet welcoming atmosphere that fosters camaraderie and relaxation after a full day of learning and training. In this course, you’ll learn the fundamentals of long-range shooting—from understanding ballistics, caliber selection, firearm safety, optic/reticle selection, and system maintenance to mastering techniques for accuracy at extended distances.

 

Do I need experience with any of these activities?
No previous experience is necessary.

 

Will there be any free time?
Yes, there will be some downtime in the evenings to connect with the other ladies.

 

Will I be sharing a room?
Ranch-style housing includes a full kitchen, bath, three private rooms, and one room with three beds. Bedding and towels will be provided for all attendees.

Is transportation included?
No. Transportation to and from the event is not included in the retreat package.

 

What are the transportation guidelines?
Participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation from the airport to the retreat location.

No, airfare is not included—guests are responsible for booking their own flights.

 

Are meals included?
Yes, all meals will be provided throughout the retreat.

Will I be charged interest or any fees for not paying in full?
No. We’re happy to split the total cost into two payments with no added fees.

What is the refund and cancellation policy?
If you’re unable to attend, you may transfer your spot to another woman or receive a credit for 75% of your payment to use toward a 2027 HOJ event. In the unlikely event your guides must cancel, you will receive a full refund.

 

What should I pack for the retreat?
A detailed packing list will be provided upon booking.

 

Will there be Wi-Fi and cell service?
Service varies by carrier, but you should expect little to no Wi-Fi or cell service during the retreat.

 

Do I need to be a certain age to attend?
Yes, participants must be 18 years or older.
