Building an empire takes hard work, dedication and a solid team of support and encouragement. On this episode I dive into entrepreneurship, honoring you personal strengths and needs, and building a bad ass business.
Heather Kelly grew up in Bird Creek, Alaska and was all about finding adventure and competing as a collegiate athlete. Whether she was out hiking, pack-rafting, or rowing crew with her college team, she was always working to be her best self. What she experienced through poor nutritional advice in college though, would one day lead her down the path to create her company, Heather's Choice.
Fueling and recovering after grueling excursions and competition, Heather knew she was not feeling her best, and decided to pave a different way when it came to nutrition. She then switched her focus to Paleolithic nutrition and graduated with a degree in Evolutionary Nutrition from Western Washington University.
With an endless love for food, fueling, and eating psychology, Heather took it on herself to begin making her own packable food for her trips and adventures. Her mission is to "put healthy, delicious food in peoples packs."
She wears many hats at Heather's Choice, but more than anything she loves to create new products, talk business to customers, and soak up the satisfaction of knowing "our friends get to eat healthy, good food when there are out enjoying themselves in the backcountry."
More recently Heather has begun to dive into hunting, and with the help of her boyfriend, Brad, she harvested her first animal, a black bear, this year.
I really found a lot of good advice from Heather in this interview, but one of the things I loved the most was her answer to this:
Question: What is the most valuable lesson you've learned as a woman?
Heather: "As a woman, it's important to remember, we can have, do and be anything we want to! I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to run my own business, and I do believe the people in my company like working for a woman because I intentionally run the business from the place of honesty, integrity and compassion. I want to make sure everyone is getting their emotional needs met so they can do great work. Women have the power to shed a lot of light on the world and how we do things!"
I believe Heather really takes life seriously, and lives her passions authentically, and with a great purpose.
